The Athlete

Built for the Game

Gregory Brooks Jr. grew up with a ball in his hands and a fire in his chest. From his earliest years, athletics wasn't just something he did — it was who he was. He trained harder than anyone around him, pushed through pain, and carried the belief that discipline and determination could conquer anything.

He was the kind of athlete coaches dream about — not just physically gifted, but mentally tough. He understood sacrifice. He understood what it meant to give everything you had to something bigger than yourself. The game taught him lessons that would later save his life.

The Diagnosis

When Everything Changed

Then came the moment no one is ever ready for. Gregory received a diagnosis that stopped him cold: a brain tumor. The same body he had spent years conditioning, pushing, and trusting — had turned into the arena of the hardest fight of his life.

The news was devastating. The uncertainty was overwhelming. But in the quiet moments after the diagnosis, something stirred inside Gregory — the same competitive fire that had carried him through every game, every practice, every setback. He had faced opponents before. This was just a different kind.

"Whatever card I'm dealt," Gregory says. "That's the card I am going to play."

The Fight

A Warrior's Mindset

What followed was a journey through surgeries, treatments, and the kind of physical and emotional exhaustion that words can barely capture. There were days when getting out of bed felt like running a marathon. Days when hope felt distant.

But Gregory leaned on the same principles that had defined him as an athlete: show up, do the work, trust the process, and never — never — quit. He surrounded himself with family, faith, and the unwavering belief that his story wasn't over.

He fought. And he kept fighting. Not just for himself — but for every person who needed to see that it was possible to face the impossible and still stand.

The Foundation

Born From the Battle

Out of that fight came a purpose. Gregory realized that one of the hardest parts of facing a brain tumor or cancer diagnosis wasn't just the physical battle — it was the isolation. The feeling that no one truly understood what you were going through. The silence that surrounds suffering.

He knew he couldn't let that silence stand. So he built something. The Brooks Jr. Strong Foundation was created to be the voice he wished he'd had — a source of hope, encouragement, and community for brain tumor warriors, cancer patients, athletes, youth athletes, and everyday people who are fighting battles the world can't always see.

Because warriors don't quit. And no warrior should ever fight alone.

The Mission

Why Brooks Jr. Strong Exists

Brooks Jr. Strong Foundation exists to inspire hope, provide encouragement, and build community for brain tumor warriors, cancer patients, athletes, and everyday people who refuse to give up.

We believe that every warrior deserves to feel seen, supported, and reminded that their strength is greater than their diagnosis. Through events, outreach, and Gregory's personal story, we show up for people in their hardest moments.
